This month, Slate is republishing some of our favorite stories. Here's today’s selection: Dan Engber has written scores of fantastic pieces for Slate on science and sports and quicksand and hotel toothpaste (or the lack thereof). For many years, he served as both the writer and editor of the Explainer column, demonstrating time and again that there’s no such thing as a stupid question. Actually, it’s more accurate to say that there are a whole slew of stupid questions, but when Dan is the guy fielding those questions, then we end up getting much better answers than we probably deserve. —Josh Levin
