The schedule included a conversation between former Trump strategist Steve Bannon and the magazine’s editor in chief, David Remnick. By mid-afternoon, high-profile festival participants including Jim Carrey, Judd Apatow, and Patton Oswalt had publicly pulled out, citing their objection to taking part in an event that “normalizes hate,” as Apatow put it. By dinnertime, Remnick issued a lengthy statement explaining that Bannon had been disinvited. Our short national nightmare was over.
